Morrow leads Warriors over Blazers in Oakland

Basketball Betting Lines

11/19/2008 - Oakland, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Anthony Morrow scored 25 points, including the three game-clinching free throws in the final seconds, to give the Golden State Warriors a 111-106 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Stephen Jackson had 20 points and eight assists for the Warriors, who won two straight for the first time this season. Corey Maggette also had 20 points in the win.

Greg Oden poured in a career-high 22 points and 10 grabbed boards for the Blazers, who have dropped two of three. Brandon Roy totaled 22 points and nine helpers, while Travis Outlaw and Rudy Fernandez had 13 points and seven rebounds apiece.

The Warriors were still up three, 104-101, with under 30 seconds left as Maggette took a three-pointer. The bid caromed off the rim and right to C.J. Watson, who was fouled. He hit both shots for a five-point lead with 19.9 ticks left.

Roy stole an inbounds pass and went in for a layup to make it a three-point game again. Then on the next Golden State inbounds, Morrow threw the ball away and possession went back to Portland.

Outlaw was fouled and went to the line. He hit both shots, but was whistled for a lane violation on the second and the shot didn't count. That made it 108-106 with 5.6 ticks left.

Fernandez fouled Morrow and was also called for a technical foul on the next Warriors inbounds, and Morrow went to the line and hit all three to make it a five-point game.

The Blazers were up 27-24 after the first quarter, but the Warriors were sitting on a slight 51-49 cushion at the intermission.

Nicolas Batum nailed a three-pointer to give Portland a 52-51 lead, but Golden State came right back.

Jackson hit a pair of free throws, Morrow drained a three and Maggette dropped in a jumper for a 58-52 Blazers lead with 7:44 showing on the clock in the third quarter.

Two free throws from Oden in the closing seconds brought the visitors within 80-73 heading into the final 12 minutes.

A Roy three-pointer pulled the Blazers within six, Jackson then made two free throws, but Outlaw dropped in a three-ball to cut it to 90-85 with 7:51 to play in regulation.

Two from the charity stripe by Andris Biedrins made it a seven-point game, but Roy answered with a layup and Oden slammed home the ball following a Fernandez missed jumper. The emphatic slam brought the score to 94-91 with six minutes left in regulation.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value

If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture.  Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).

For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot.  The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.

TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the  drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.

"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,'  it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."

"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.

Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash.  Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
